Privacy Policy

The short version

• There is no account, so we never ask for your name, your email or your phone number, and we do not have them.
• Your favourites, collections, reading history and settings stay on your phone. We cannot see them.
• Liking a quote sends the quote’s id under an anonymous identifier, so the public like counter cannot be moved twice by the same phone.
• Anonymous usage counts are sent while the “Share usage data” switch in Settings is on. Turning it off stops them.
• No advertising, no advertising identifier, no tracking in Apple’s sense, and nothing sold or shared with data brokers.

1. What stays on your device

The app stores two things on your iPhone, in its own private storage. One is the library itself — every quote, author and topic is installed with the app. The other is what you do with it: favourites, collections, the authors you follow, which passages you have already seen, your appearance and reminder settings, and whether you have bought the one-time unlock.

None of that is uploaded, and none of it appears in the data described below. The names you give your collections, in particular, never leave the phone. Deleting the app deletes all of it.

2. What leaves your device

a. Likes and the public counter

Each quote carries a public like count. To keep one phone from moving that number twice, the app signs in anonymously to Google Firebase the first time you like something. Anonymous sign-in produces a random identifier; it is not connected to an Apple ID, an email address, a name or a payment.

Under that identifier the following is stored:

• the ids of the quotes you have liked, with the time each like was made; and
• the total like count for each quote, which is public.

Unliking a quote deletes its record and decrements the counter. Legal basis, where the GDPR applies: our legitimate interest in operating a feature you asked for by tapping the heart.

b. Anonymous usage counts

While “Share usage data” is on in Settings, the app reports a fixed, closed list of events through Firebase Analytics: a quote was read, liked, unliked, saved or shared; a collection was created; the daily limit was reached; the paywall was shown; a purchase completed.

Every event carries ids and counts only. None of them carries quote text, an author’s name, a collection name, a search you typed, or any other content. The switch is on when the app is installed, and Settings → Privacy → “Share usage data” turns it off for good; nothing further is reported from that moment.

c. Purchases

The one-time Timeless Unlimited purchase is processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles payment and tells the app only whether the purchase exists. We never see your card, your billing address or your Apple ID. Apple’s handling of that transaction is covered by Apple’s own privacy policy.

3. Who processes it

Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC, as our processor, runs Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore and Firebase Analytics for the purposes above. Apple Inc. processes the purchase. There is no one else: no ad network, no attribution tool, no analytics beyond the one named, and no third party is given the data for their own purposes.

Google’s infrastructure may store this data outside the European Economic Area, under the safeguards in Google’s data processing terms.

4. How long it is kept

• Likes: until you unlike the quote or ask us to delete the record.
• Usage events: retained by Firebase Analytics under Google’s default retention window and then deleted.
• Everything else: on your device, for as long as the app is installed.

5. Deleting your data

Three routes, depending on what you want gone:

• Your likes: unlike the quotes in the app, and the records are deleted.
• Usage counts: switch “Share usage data” off in Settings.
• Everything held under your anonymous identifier: email contact.timelesswisdomquotes@gmail.com. The identifier is anonymous and exists only on your phone, so we will reply telling you where to find it — without it, no record can be tied to you, by us or by anyone else. Requests are answered within 30 days.

Deleting the app removes everything stored on the phone, including the only copy of the anonymous identifier. After that the like records can no longer be matched to your phone by anyone, including us.

6. Your rights

Where the GDPR or the UK GDPR applies you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and object to processing based on legitimate interest. Where the CCPA applies you may request disclosure and deletion. We do not sell personal information and never have. Requests go to contact.timelesswisdomquotes@gmail.com. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

7. Children

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them. It contains the writing of philosophers, founders and psychologists, which is rated accordingly on the App Store.

8. Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of the page changes with it and the new version is published here before the app release it applies to.
